Whatever tide you’re in,
You don’t have to move through it alone.
Telehealth therapy for adults and teens throughout Washington State
who this is for
Welcome.
You found your way here in a moment of searching, and I’m so glad to meet you in it.
In my experience, the people who come to me are far more thoughtful, capable, and deeply feeling than they’ve been given credit for. Many have spent years performing strength while quietly struggling. Others bear the pressure of expectations they never chose. Some are standing at the edge of a new chapter and aren’t sure how to begin.
You might be:
∙ Feeling anxious, low, or disconnected from yourself
∙ Sensitive, creative, perceptive — and overwhelmed by it
∙ Struggling with body image or how you feel in your own skin
∙ Questioning your sense of belonging: cultural, racial, familial, or spiritual
∙ Moving through grief or significant change
∙ Healing from trauma or relational harm
Or maybe nothing on this list quite fits, and something harder to name brought you here.
You don’t have to know what it is yet. That’s something we can make sense of together.
In our work together, you can begin to:
∙ Express yourself clearly and feel genuinely heard
∙ Set boundaries without abandoning yourself
∙ Honor grief without being consumed by it
∙ Release what old wounds have told you about yourself
∙ Trust yourself, one small decision at a time
∙ Live and act in alignment with your values
∙ Move through the world without hiding who you are
Not because you forced yourself to change.
But because something inside you finally felt safe enough to shift.
what becomes possible
In therapy, you bring your truth.
I bring a grounded presence, curiosity, and care.
You arrive with more wisdom than you may realize: your own experience, your lineage, the ways of knowing that have been passed down to you. Therapy isn’t about replacing that. It’s about finding your way back to what’s true, and setting down what never was.
We move at a pace your nervous system can hold. If the body is activated and the mind is overwhelmed, we slow down first, until what feels unbearable begins to feel manageable.
We make space for what stirs beneath the surface. We explore the parts of you that learned how to survive, and we ask whether those patterns still serve the life you want now.
Change is rarely a straight line. It often moves like water: circling, softening, clarifying, sometimes carving new pathways entirely. Some days therapy looks like untangling a single thread. Some days it looks like standing at the edge of a brave decision.
At the center is this: healing happens in relationship. Lasting change grows from the experience of being deeply understood while you practice becoming more fully yourself. That’s where you stop surviving and start living.
For many people, that feels like liberation.
Others call it coming home to themselves.
how we work together
about your therapist
Hi, I’m Nicole Calivo.
I’m a mental health therapist based in Tacoma, Washington. Before starting Current Tide Therapy, I spent years doing counseling work in community mental health agencies and public schools throughout the South Puget Sound.
Every person who sits with me brings a story I’ve never encountered before. I understand the courage it takes to let your story be heard, and I'm honored to walk alongside you.
The healing path is one I know from the inside; I’ve walked it myself, and continue to. It’s also one I’ve trained carefully to guide. I hold a Master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling (MAEd) from Seattle University. My academic background also includes a Bachelor’s degree in Cultural Anthropology from The Evergreen State College, which continues to inform how I understand identity, belonging, and culture in the therapeutic space. I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor Associate (LMHCA) in Washington State and a Nationally Certified Counselor (NCC).
I practice from a person-centered and relational foundation, attuned to the ways trauma shapes us and with deep respect for the full complexity of who you are. I also integrate Narrative Therapy, Internal Family Systems (IFS), existential therapy, Liberation Psychology, somatic and mindfulness-based approaches, Motivational Interviewing (MI), and Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT).
Areas I commonly work with include anxiety, depression, grief and loss, trauma, PTSD, complex PTSD (CPTSD), life transitions, relationship and family stress, self-esteem, body image, gender and sexuality, and cultural and racial identity.
I'm committed to my ongoing growth as a clinician because this is work I love, and because I care deeply about the work you do when we're in it together.
Outside of session, I’m often somewhere along a shoreline or trying my hand at something new. Lately that’s been watercolor paints—making a mess and meaning in equal measure.
